A day for heroes. Website reaction

Of course talk pre match was of the situation we find ourself in but just as much talk was of expectation. Would there be riots, abuse, attacks. Would there be demonstrations and marches.?

Ermm there appeared to none of the above. Silent TV footage in the pub later showed a gentleman having a pop at Sam but apart from that the day passed fairly peacefully.

The day couldn't help but be dominated with talk of our impending implosion. From my experience today Sam has very few fans left, but he does have some. People are still believing when told that we can get out of this mess with a new stadium and a bright future.

Exactly whats going on is unclear but theres no doubt the club sits close to disaster. Despite rallying crys from Hammam and interviews with him that shows a man who says he is hoping to sort it all out, the general feeling is that we are days away from administration. Money is being offfered by fellow director Michael Isaac but he wants a bigger share in the club and Sam won't let him have it.

The week ahead promoises to be "interesting". More player sales are likely. Peter Thorne was taken off the pitch less than 15 mins into the game. The fans were confused. He was confused and the conspiracy theories kicked into action, we even looked to the skies to see if a helicopter had come to whisk him away (like it did for Kav aparantly). Rumours that Forest had agreed a deal for him just prior to kick off were never confirmed and afterwards Lennie said he had a hamstring problem.

I never saw Sam at all. I looked to the directors box and could see Michael Isaac and Steve Borley, Sam, I was told, spent some time in the dug out. He was wearing a City jacket rather than his usual overcoat. A disguise that fooled me.

The first half of football was fairly forgetable, Utd lumped long balls into the City box to try and take advantage of the wind behind their backs. City dealt with it well and few chances were created.

The second half was different. City came out intent on attacking and several good chances were created and missed as pressure built on the Utd defence. The goal when it came was created by Jobi McAnuff wide left, he jinked and got in a cross that was not dealt with by Utd and the loose ball was thumped into the net by Joe Ledley's left foot.

Even then Utd hardly seemed bothered to look for a goal of their own. I assume they were still suffering from 120 mins against Arsenal in midweek and the disappointment of losing on penalties.

The City fans and players were jubilant. The hugging and cheering was like we'd won the cup. The City players stayed on the pitch to applaud the fans and you wonder how many of them will never play for City again.

The other results weren't good. Wins for Forest, Gillingham and Coventry mean we are no further away from the drop zone than we were at the start of the day. Defeats above us though to Plymouth, Leicester, Crewe, Brighton, Watford and Burnley this weekend mean we are only a result or two from mid table.

With a 17 point deficit Rotherham are sunk. It's possible though any two from 10 teams will be joining them.

The club lives on for another day at least. Well done to the players and the fans who today rallied around and did themselves proud.
